The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music. Bodies never lie. ~Agnes de Mille
Traveldance.net is a site dedicated to travel through dance. Each post will explore the diversity of a new country.
Originally I intended for this blog to be about cultural celebrations – birthdays, weddings, parades and festivals. A blog that would take you to exotic locations and expose you to the best parts of each culture through dance. Dance is associated with celebration, fun and happiness. I had hoped to get one step closer to experiencing a country and its culture in an intimate and authentic way, by learning about how to get involved in traditional cultural celebrations, no matter how bizarre, challenging or uncomfortable. Colourful locations, traditional music and dance, authentic food and local people in local dress doing traditionally loco things! Imagine getting a backstage pass and front row seat to all this weird and wonderfulness…
But, what I have come to realise is that it is very difficult to write about festivals and celebrations in which you have not participated in countries you have not visited.
So instead I am writing about all the countries I AM visiting as a performing artist and my journey as a dancer travelling the world. Enjoy!
